RAYMON CYRIL “Xy” So is a graduate of BS Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE) at the Technological University of the Philippines (TUP) — Taguig Campus. He is the recipient of the Grayhawk Award for Outstanding Leadership for School Year 2007-2008 by the TUP Alumni Association. He also finished a three-year technician program, ECE Technology at TUP Manila where he graduated With Honors for School Year 2004-2005 under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Scholarship Program. He is awarded as an Outstanding DOST Scholar Graduate in 2005.
Xy worked as a Maintenance Technician at Amkor Technology Philippines – P1 for two years. He became a part-time instructor at TUP-Taguig for two terms, teaching major and minor subjects: Trigonometry, Analytic Geometry, Maintenance Management, Entrepreneurship, Radio Laws and Regulations, and Instrumentation and Process Control. He currently works as a Writer / Researcher for Filweb Asia, Inc., a global mission-critical, Internet technology out-sourcing firm providing network availability (Hosting), BPO Services and a modular suite of Internet-based applications to small and medium-sized businesses.
As a member of the College Editors Guild of the Philippines, Xy has been a part of the student publication of TUP, The Philippine Artisan, for six years: one year as a Staff Writer and two years as the Circulation Manager at TUP-Manila and three years as the Editor in Chief at TUP-Taguig. He was also a contributor at Intrigue Magazine for two issues.
Xy is also an advocate for active student organizations. He spearheaded the establishment of Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines – TUP-Taguig Student Chapter (IECEP-TUPTSC) in 2006. He became the Publications Committee Head of the IECEP-Expanded Metro Manila Student Chapter (formerly IECEP – National Student Chapter). He is also the convener of the Artisan – Taguig Alumni Association (Artisan-TAlA), the organization of former staff writers and editors of The Philippine Artisan of TUP-Taguig. He was also one of the initial members of the TUP-T Book Club (Readers’ Society) prior its accreditation as a student organization. He is also designated as the Area Coordinator of CEGP for Metro South (comprised of Makati, Muntinlupa, Las Piñas, and Taguig). He was elected as the President of TUP-T Graduating Class of 2008.
Breaking the Silence. bts started as an opinion column on The Philippine Artisan, in both Manila and Taguig campuses of TUP, in 2001. It has evolved into a blog through Friendster Blogs (http://xyso.blogs.friendster.com) hosted thru DotTK (http://www.breakingthesilence.tk). Its very first post is recorded on May 23, 2005. Changes has been done since it migrated into WordPress (https://xyso.wordpress.com) on June 2009.
